A woman’s ability to access birth control and receive it conveniently by mail should be common-sense, not a luxury reserved for those that can afford it. Women already face too many barriers to receive basic healthcare, and our team at The Pill Club is hard at work to make this a thing of the past. That’s why we’re excited to announce that starting today, we now offer reliable birth control delivery for people in Arkansas. This marks our 48th state where the Pill Club can now fill and deliver birth control prescriptions to people who need it, with plans to serve all 50 states before year’s end. With the Pill Club, people in Arkansas not only have access to reliable birth control delivery, but also other needs like period care, that fit their lifestyle and budget.
Over 170,000 women in Arkansas in need of publicly funded contraception live in contraceptive deserts, meaning they cannot readily access birth control and other forms of contraception based on where they live. Not only that, but the unplanned pregnancy rate is 55% in the state. And while teen pregnancy rates have fallen 68% between 1991 and 2018, the rate of pregnancy for 18-19 year olds is significantly—almost double—the national average. With the Pill Club, people can now consult with a registered nurse practitioner to discuss their unique needs and have their contraception delivered right to their doorstep in discreet packaging, eliminating the need for monthly trips to the pharmacy.
We are also proud to announce that as part of today’s launch, we’re making a donation to Arkansas-based Peace at Home Family Shelter, an organization that provides safe shelter and supportive services to survivors of domestic violence and their children in Northwest Arkansas. Supporting the safety and well being of people through services like those offered at Peace at Home Family Shelter is critical to creating opportunity for women and their families. We’re thankful for the opportunity to play a small part in helping their efforts.
