To-do lists are often equated with stress and busyness, but this round-up of recommendations is designed to wind you down when your period arrives. Here’s what to watch, read, listen to, buy, and do for some maximized downtime during that time of this month.
After a languorous summer, September is the perfect time to tune back in—and get excited about what’s coming up for fall. From a sexy, escapist thriller to pop music and pops of color, here are The Pill Club’s picks for the month, designed to help you stay present and poised for the shift in season.
Thanks to social media, it’s safe to say that we’ve all become a bit voyeuristic. So, why not embrace it? Starring Sydney Sweeney of Euphoria and The White Lotus, The Voyeurs is an erotic thriller (streaming on Amazon Prime starting September 10) that follows along as a young couple moves into a gorgeous apartment—with a very interesting view. But as watching leads to partaking, things begin to become complicated—and dangerous.
Fans of novel Normal People—and the lauded Hulu adaptation—have been waiting for Sally Rooney’s latest release with bated breath. Finally, here it is: Alice and Felix are heading to Rome, while Eileen is in Dublin, healing from a breakup with the help of a flirtation with childhood friend Simon. Sex and friendship, desire and delusion all lend to a plot that centers on love and relation in the real world—and the task of making our experience in that world a beautiful one.
Halsey’s new album is slated to be extra in more ways than one. First, the compilation features no singles, the music releasing as a complete, featureless collection. Second, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power is dropping in-tandem with an IMAX movie of the same name. (It’s already been heralded by a series of fairly graphic theatrical trailers.) Third, it’s a first-time pop production from Nine Inch Nails members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who, these days, specialize in film scores. With a gothic lean and track names like “Lilith” and “Girl Is a Gun,” September just got a bit more subversive.
Curated and created by a group of South Asians—brought together by founder Prinyanka Ganjoo—and named for a regional type of no-churn ice cream, Kulfi is an up-and-coming, representative beauty brand that’s as delightful as its origins. For back-to-school season, we love the Underlined Kajal Eyeliner. Offered in an array of sultry shades, from bright blue to terracotta, it gives a fun edge to your water line that will last all day—and night.
Welcome the Fall Equinox
The fall equinox marks the point of the year when the day and night are, momentarily, equal in length. In pagan times, the equinox (which this year falls on September 22) was marked by Mabon, a celebration of mid-harvest and gratitude. Welcome autumn by honoring balance—between work and play, rest and productivity, and moderation and indulgence—and giving thanks for the abundance that surrounds you.
