Why We Donated Emergency Contraception to Whole Woman’s Health in Response to Texas S.B.8

At The Pill Club, we believe that everyone should have access to the medical care they need and make decisions for themselves, on their own terms. And while we don’t provide abortion at The Pill Club, we believe that abortion should be legal, safe, and accessible. Let’s be clear: Texas Senate Bill (S.B.) 8 -- which bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy and allows almost anyone to sue abortion providers and others who support a person obtaining abortion care -- causes harm and is a fundamental violation of women’s rights. It’s dangerous for patients, healthcare providers, and interferes with people’s health care decisions -- particularly young women, low-income women, and women of color.

Everyone deserves access to high-quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare when and where they want it. That means no bans, no bounties, and no politicizing healthcare.

That’s why, as a result of S.B.8, The Pill Club has donated 10,000 boxes of generic Plan B to Whole Woman’s Health -- an independent abortion provider operating four clinics in Texas located in Fort Worth, McKinney, Austin, and McAllen. Plan B can prevent ovulation, block fertilization, or keep a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus. It does not cause abortion or miscarriage, and it is not a substitute for legally protected abortion access. But if you are one of the nearly 7 million women of reproductive age in Texas and you don’t want to become pregnant, Plan B can prevent pregnancy within 72 hours of unprotected sex.

We know that there is a lot of confusion around S.B.8 and whether emergency contraception like Plan B is still legal (it is!). That’s not a coincidence -- laws banning reproductive healthcare are designed to cause confusion and disempower people from making informed decisions about their bodies and futures.

We’re here to help. For more information on who Plan B is for and how to take it, visit our website here. And to get in touch with Whole Woman’s Health, visit them here or call 1-877-835-1090.
